A well-designed bathroom is more than just a functional space; it is an opportunity to make a statement, reflect personal style, and create an atmosphere of luxury and relaxation. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through the strategic use of colour and texture. In this blog post, we’ll explore how our latest bathroom project embraces bold blue tones, intricate textures, and elegant details to deliver a sophisticated yet inviting space.
The Power of Colour in Bathroom Design
Colour is one of the most influential elements in interior design, capable of setting the mood and defining the overall aesthetic of a space.
In this project, we chose a deep, rich blue to serve as the foundation of the design. Blue is a versatile hue that evokes a sense of calm while also making a striking visual impact.
Wall Panelling & Cabinetry: The use of a bold blue on the vanity and decorative wall panelling adds depth and character to the space. The contrast between the blue and the crisp white elements creates a timeless elegance.
Ceiling & Accent Walls: Extending the blue onto the ceiling enhances the room’s enveloping feel, creating a cohesive and immersive design.
Texture: Adding Depth and Interest
While colour is essential, texture plays a crucial role in elevating a design from ordinary to extraordinary. In this bathroom, a combination of textures has been used to create a visually rich and tactile experience.
Chevron Tiled Splashback: The deep blue herringbone tiles behind the double vanity add a dynamic and luxurious touch. The subtle variation in the tile finish enhances the play of light and shadow, giving the wall depth and movement. We sourced these from Boyden Tiles.
Classic Patterned Flooring: The geometric black-and-white floor tiles introduce an element of vintage charm, grounding the space and tying together modern and traditional influences. They can be found on Ca Pietra's website!
Moulded Wall Panels: Framing details on the walls add a layer of sophistication, giving the room a bespoke and tailored appearance.
Feature Fixtures That Elevate the Space
Beyond colour and texture, the selection of fixtures and fittings plays a significant role in reinforcing the overall aesthetic.
Freestanding Clawfoot Bath: The elegant, traditional-style bathtub with metallic clawfoot legs serves as a striking centrepiece, offering both style and function. This particular bath and many more can be found on the BC Design's website.
Brushed Nickel Steel Taps: The sleek, wall-mounted faucets above the double sinks provide a modern touch, enhancing the overall streamlined aesthetic. These taps are part of the Decca Range from Coalbrook.
Oversized Mirrored Cabinet: The large mirrored cabinet enhances natural light, making the space feel larger while also providing practical storage. This mirrored cabinet is from Keuco and is part of the Royal Lumos range.
Heated Towel Rail: A functional yet stylish addition, ensuring warmth and luxury after every bath or shower. The radiator is fully stainless steel and comes with a 25 year guarantee courtesy of JIS Radiators.
Creating Balance: Modern Meets Classic
One of the key successes of this bathroom design is the seamless blend of modern and classic elements. The ornate features, such as the clawfoot bath and panel mouldings, bring a sense of heritage, while the sleek, contemporary fittings keep the space feeling fresh and up-to-date.
Final Thoughts
By carefully curating colour, texture, and high-quality fixtures, this bathroom transforms into more than just a functional space—it becomes an experience.
Whether you're drawn to rich hues, intricate tilework, or statement fixtures, the key to achieving a standout bathroom lies in the balance between bold choices and timeless elegance.
